Google's new Fred algorithm update takes the SEO world by the storm

Every few months, Google rolls out new algorithm updates to attack websites that are not really offering any value to the users, or those which are attempting to manipulate the search engine results with black hat or spam strategies. Google, however, generally remain tight-lipped regarding their release of any new algorithm updates - for quite clear reasons - however, the recent Google Fred algorithm update was immense enough to catch the attention of SEO firms as well as numerous webmasters.

The global web-masters and the SEO community, together with all of Google's advanced tracking tool, highlight that there has been an algorithm ranking update released by Google recently.

The SEO fraternity, of late, has been witnessing a new but unconfirmed ranking update in the world's largest search engine. The recent ranking update looks more like targeting the link quality segment of the overall search algorithm.

As of now, people in the global SEO community and the web-masters are calling the recent ranking update as the Fred Update, however there is nothing official about it. The name has been drawn from a recent statement by Gary Illyes of Google who, only recently, humorously said that all updates must be named Fred unless stated otherwise, so it looks like the big guys have stuck with it in the recent algorithm update.

It's not the first unconfirmed update by Google
Following the news, numerous change reports and chatter buzz has been witnessed among the 'black hat' SEO fraternity, which practically implies that it is a spam update around the links. Last time an update related to link-spam was reported in early Feb, however, it was again an update unconfirmed by Google officials. Also, there was another content quality large Google update reported on Feb 7, but it was again unconfirmed by Google.

As it is expected, Google is simply reluctant to confirm any type of algorithm update nowadays. But still, various reports keep popping up to claim large shift in terms of search results that directly singles to the fact that there has been an algorithm update.

Several automated SEO tracking utilities currently showcase significant and measurable fluctuation and volatility, which hints towards an algorithm update. In addition, with all the buzz across the industry, and with numerous webmasters revealing a decline or an increase in their ranking, it is fairly clear that Google has for sure made an update.

Google, as of now, has released no official word about it, we just have typical Google words from Gary Illyes and John Mueller who said that Google keeps making updates all the time.

Black hat SEO world left stumped

In general, the black hat SEO world is more focused on links and anytime those forums go berserk, it generally and typically means that a link-based algorithm update has been made by Google. No doubt, many are asserting that they have never got involved in any type of black hat techniques and are still affected by this. It can potentially be a case of false positives or perhaps they might have got engaged in any type of link building and that they do not agree on the point that their link building strategy is of the black hat nature.

A lot of tracking tools have already been updated and are reflecting important updates too, though there's not much happening at Mozcast.
